Dinosaurs, mammoths and trilobites may have disappeared millions of years ago, but at the Suzhou Science and Technology Museum, they are making a vivid return. Nearly 30 Christie Jazz Series 1DLP laser projectors are powering the museum’s new “Zoo of Extinction” exhibition, transforming a 12-meter-high (39-foot) hall into an immersive journey through Earth’s vanished worlds.
Opened for trial operations in March 2026, “Zoo of Extinction” has quickly become the museum’s core immersive gallery. Designed around the themes of discovery, understanding, renewal and coexistence, the exhibition combines lifelike digital imagery with interactive storytelling, extended reality (XR) and mixed reality to give visitors a new perspective on species that once inhabited the planet.

The installation comprises 15 Christie 4K1600-JS and 13 4K2100-JS projectors, delivering detailed, high-impact visuals throughout the expansive exhibition space. Shanghai Qingying Digital Technology provided end-to-end project support, including system design, equipment selection and the complex multi-projector installation.
Recreating lost worlds with precision
“The ‘Zoo of Extinction’ project places stringent demands on projection equipment,” said Yueyi Wu, general manager of Shanghai Qingying Digital Technology. “The Christie 4K1600-JS and 4K2100-JS projectors, with their ultra-sharp 4K UHD+ resolution, high brightness, and high contrast, perfectly blend digital imagery with real-world scenes. Their low latency and high refresh rate ensure precise alignment across multiple projectors, audio-visual systems, and interactive devices. Furthermore, the Jazz Series operates with low noise and is backed by a five-year warranty, fully meeting the stringent standards for uninterrupted 24/7 operation in cultural and tourism venues.”
The project also builds on Christie’s established presence at the Suzhou Science and Technology Museum. More than 50 Christie Inspire Series DWU760-iS 1DLP laser projectors have already been installed across multiple galleries, supporting a range of visual experiences throughout the facility.
Projection at the Heart of the Experience
“Suzhou Science and Technology Museum’s ‘Zoo of Extinction’ demonstrates the growing role of advanced projection in shaping next-generation science and cultural venues,” said Gene Wang, Senior Director of ProAV sales for China, Christie. “Our Jazz Series projectors provide the brightness, image precision, and installation flexibility required for a variety of applications. Working closely with partners like Shanghai Qingying Digital Technology, we ensure these solutions are deployed seamlessly to create engaging, high-impact experiences for audiences.”
Powered by a new 0.8-inch HEP DMD, Christie Jazz Series projectors combine enhanced colour performance and improved contrast with efficient thermal management. The series delivers brightness levels of up to 23,750 lumens and 4K UHD+ resolution in a compact chassis weighing less than 30 kilograms (65 lbs.).

Interchangeable lenses provide additional installation flexibility, while built-in warping and blending with Christie Twist and compatibility with automated alignment tools such as Christie Mystique support precise multi-projector configurations.
For “Zoo of Extinction,” these capabilities come together to create more than a collection of projected images. They help transform the museum environment itself, immersing visitors in lost ecosystems and bringing the story of extinction, and the importance of coexistence, to life.
