The move towards higher resolution and ultra wide displays is putting new demands on the infrastructure behind professional AV systems. Extron is addressing that challenge with the new DXP 42 HD 8K, a compact 4×2 HDMI matrix switcher now shipping for high performance ProAV applications.
Supporting up to 8K/60 and ultra wide 5K resolutions at data rates of up to 40.1 Gbps, the switcher is designed to handle the increasingly demanding video formats appearing in modern collaboration and display environments, including Microsoft Teams Front Row systems.
The challenge with high bandwidth video extends beyond simply moving more pixels. Sources and displays need to communicate their capabilities correctly, while integrators need fast and reliable switching between multiple signals. The DXP 42 HD 8K incorporates Extron’s EDID Minder Plus technology to manage advanced display information, while SpeedSwitch is designed to accelerate input switching.
The switcher also provides HDMI audio de embedding and automatic input cable equalization, giving integrators additional tools for managing high bandwidth HDMI installations.
Its EDID Minder Plus technology supports enhanced 512 byte EDID emulation, including the additional memory blocks required to communicate advanced display capabilities through EDID and DisplayID structures. The system can also automatically adjust colour bit depth according to the connected display’s EDID, helping avoid compatibility issues between sources and displays.
With 8K, ultra wide and 21:9 content becoming increasingly relevant to professional environments, the DXP 42 HD 8K reflects a broader shift in ProAV towards infrastructure capable of handling substantially higher data rates without adding unnecessary complexity.
