3D Projection Mapping is nothing new, and more so in India – thanks to the exponential growth of Infotainment segment, of late – with every big occasion turning into an event of projection mapping. This one, however, is different. In that, it is a rocky mountain surface, in very rough terrain, and the largest natural surface thus far in the country.
Moreover, it is permanent. It’s been nominated for a place in the Limca Book of Records as the ‘biggest 3D Projection Mapping on Mountain Hills in India.’
‘Engineered’ by Rhino Engineers, and integrated by Tricolour India Schauspiel, the project was inaugurated recently by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel, and is a phenomenon by itself in Indian infotainment sector.

YES, this one is a truly different one, and the big one too. It’s perhaps, bigger than even what most say rhetorically as ‘larger-than-life’ sort.
Consider this:
• A very hard rocky mountainous surface as the canvas of 3D projection mapping
• The rock surface measuring 265 meters in width and 68 meters in height
• Six projectors of 45,000 lumens brightness each- meaning 2,70,000 lumens of total brightness
• Installed 120 meters away from the projection surface – on the outdoor, in weather-proof cabinets
• A 5.1 surround system for audio &
• At a cost of ₹ 13.56 crore
• All done in span of four weeks
A ‘decade-long-nourished dream’ for Rhino Engineers’ Principal Consultant Narendra Naidu – the known name in the Infotainment industry ranks – and his coming together with yet another name in projection mapping domain Tricolour India Schauspiel Pvt. Ltd. for doing what most may feel the undoable sound and light show on a rough and dull, densely vegetated mountainous rock (surface).
Strangely, the name of the rock is Gabbar, while the terrain it is located is Banaskantha District of Gujarat, near the pilgrim town of Ambaji.
Commissioned by the Gujarat Pavitra Yatradham Vikas Board (GPYVB) – a tourism promotion concern of Government of Gujarat – the project was recently inaugurated by the State Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel.
A grand mission-critical install of ‘mountainous proportions’ – supposedly coming to life after almost a decade – is certainly a record of sorts- which is why it is nominated for the LIMCA Book of Records for a place as India’s biggest 3D projection mapping on mountain hills in India.
Visual solutions major Christie Digital, obviously, leading the show, this massive sound & light install has Dataton WatchOut media servers, LPS lasers, LBT lighting, Turbo Sound audio, Klarktecknik DSPs, and Lab.Gruppen amplifiers as other stakeholders in the prestigious install.
