Five & Dime, a vibrant rooftop lounge and restaurant in Salt Lake, Kolkata, has recently improved its dining experience by installing a state-of-the-art Yamaha audio system. Renowned for its high-quality food, drink, and entertainment, the venue now boasts an audio setup that ensures an enhanced and immersive dining experience for its patrons.
To achieve this, systems integrator The Four Pillars was commissioned to design and install a comprehensive audio solution that would seamlessly cover both the indoor and outdoor areas of Five & Dime. Leading the design and integration team’s efforts was Mrinmoy Sanyal, whose expertise was crucial in addressing the unique acoustic challenges presented by the venue.
The indoor space, characterised by high ceilings and a dedicated stage for live and DJ performances, required a system capable of delivering clear and powerful sound. Additionally, the outdoor area necessitated equipment that could withstand dust and adverse weather conditions without compromising audio quality. It was equally important that the audio system complemented the venue’s vibrant décor without being obtrusive.
According to the design and integration team, they chose to partner with Yamaha Professional Audio on this project owing to the brand’s reputation for exceptional audio quality, reliability, and ability to meet the client’s specific requirements for coverage and visual integration.
For the main indoor system, the team specified Yamaha DHR15 full-range, powered loudspeakers, and DXS18XLF extended low-frequency subwoofers. The DHR15’s adjustable tilt from 0° to -7° made it ideal for ceiling suspension, while its onboard FIR filtering ensured remarkable sound clarity. The DXS18XLF subwoofers, with a frequency range of 30Hz to 150Hz and a 1600W class D amplifier module, were perfect for delivering deep, powerful bass.
On stage, Yamaha DHR12M monitors were chosen for their 1000W amplifier module and corrective EQ, which minimises phase distortion, thus providing punchy and accurate sound. This setup ensures that both performers and audiences enjoy an exceptional audio experience.
Yamaha VXS8 full-range speakers were selected for the outdoor area, powered by a PX3 amplifier. The VXS8 speakers – with their IP35-rated enclosures, flexible mounting options, and excellent coverage – proved to be an ideal match for the team in their quest for delivering superior and seamless open-air sound, despite Kolkata’s challenging climate.
To manage the audio for both the indoor and outdoor areas, a TF1 digital mixer was installed. This mixer allows for perfectly balanced audio, whether it’s for background music or live/DJ performances, ensuring an optimal auditory experience throughout the venue.
