Audinate Group Limited (ASX: AD8), developer of the industry-leading Dante® AV-over-IP platform, has announced that 2026 marks the 20th anniversary of Dante, a milestone that reflects two decades of innovation that fundamentally reshaped how professional audio and video are distributed worldwide.
What began as an ambitious solution to the growing complexity of digital audio networking has evolved into the de facto standard for AV-over-IP. Today, Dante is embedded at the heart of modern AV systems, trusted by manufacturers, integrators, and end users across live sound, commercial installations, education, broadcast, and beyond.
“Twenty years ago, Dante didn’t just solve a technical challenge. It redefined what was possible for AV,” said Aidan Williams, Chief Executive Officer at Audinate. “What began as a better way to move high-quality audio reliably and easily over IP has become a platform that underpins today’s AV systems. This milestone validates our vision, the sustained collaboration of our partners, and the depth and commitment of the global Dante community.”
Since its introduction in 2006, Dante has continuously evolved alongside the industry it helped shape. Early breakthroughs in uncompressed, low-latency audio over standard IP networks laid the groundwork for plug-and-play audio networking. Over time, Dante expanded to support video, control, and cloud-based management, enabling AV systems to become more flexible, scalable, and software-driven.
Key milestones in Dante’s evolution include the first Dante-enabled device in 2008, the launch of Dante Virtual Soundcard in 2010, and widespread adoption by leading manufacturers such as Yamaha, Shure, Harman, Focusrite, and Allen & Heath by 2012. The introduction of Dante Certification helped build a global community of trained professionals, while solutions such as Dante Domain Manager, Dante AVIO Adapters, Dante AV, and Dante Director extended Dante’s reach into enterprise-scale deployments and remote management. In 2020, Dante’s industry impact was formally recognised with a Technology & Engineering Emmy Award.
Today, Dante powers millions of devices from hundreds of manufacturers, enabling seamless interoperability across products, brands, and applications. Its open ecosystem, combined with a reputation for reliability and performance, has made Dante a cornerstone technology for organisations investing in future-ready AV infrastructure.
Looking ahead, Audinate remains focused on advancing the Dante platform to support emerging requirements, including cloud-based workflows, enhanced security, and deeper convergence between IT and AV environments.
“Reaching 20 years is not just about celebrating the past,” added Williams. “It’s about reaffirming our commitment to innovation and ensuring Dante continues to enable the next generation of AV experiences, making them simpler to deploy, easier to manage, and more powerful than ever.”
