Electro-Voice together with City Music engaged Robert Soo, a renowned Houses of Worship consultant for a three part series titled “Sound of Worship” to talk on fundamentals related to audio in churches.

The last edition held on 18th November attracted close to 120 participants who packed the Rock of Ages auditorium. Kingdom of Music supported the event by providing the space for the talk.

Every house of worship desires to have that right sound experience that is both conducive and immersive for congregational worship, but just what does it take to achieve this? So this last edition was targeted to dig deeper into the main critical aspects such as optimizing sound system hardware, setting the right acoustic environment, understanding band dynamics and very importantly the right skillset needed for the job. The intention was to help the participants understand that they need to take it from a holistic approach.

“We had a lot of requests from past participants to include audience hands-on sessions, especially on live mixing techniques. Though I absolutely agree that this is a fantastic idea, it would be impossible to implement in a large seminar style setting. As such, what we did was the next best thing. A live worship band was invited to provide a realistic scenario demonstration, and all proceeding details and tasks on the mixer were captured in real time and clearly projected on the screen so everyone can observe and follow closely throughout the session. Audience participation was also involved in getting them to evaluate the sound and “decide” on the processor settings needed. This arrangement turned out great,” said Robert.

A spokesperson from Electro-Voice highlights, “The series of workshop was set out to embrace and elevate the church AV ministry team members knowledge of sound system fundamental in theory and practical. This we hope will help the AV team put into live practice what they have learnt from the workshops in each of their church worship services thereby improving the quality sound mix production with intelligent and audible message. The 3 sessions, saw a strong total turnout of 305 participants from more than 100 churches and this is a clear indicator of continued learning and demand for more liked minds sharing of experience and knowledge. We, Electro-Voice were pleased to be part of this journey of knowledge sharing and certainly look forward to doing more and welcome churches in engaging us, for any audio assistance”.
