The Genelec S360 made its grand debut in Southeast Asia at the Genelec regional distributors meeting in Bangkok, Thailand. Thailand’s local audio professionals were also invited on 7th March to witness and experience the S360 in action.
The last Genelec regional distributors meeting was held three years back in Beijing. Howard Jones, Marketing and PR Director of Genelec highlights that they decided to hold the latest meeting in Thailand as it is a convenient and easy hub to get to. He also highlighted that as the event required good co-ordination and planning in logistics and demonstration set-up, they required a distributor they can rely on and Fuzion was a capable partner. Aki Makivirta, D.Sc, (Tech), R&D Manager also commented that Studio 28 was a great location for the demonstration and that too was a factor in their decision to hold the meet in Bangkok.
The Genelec regional distributors meeting was held from 5th to 7th March. The first two and a half days were dedicated to the distributors. Forty-five distributors were present from the region. They were given an in-depth detail regarding the S360 and 7382 design amongst other technical talks that were conducted to help the distributors not only for their sales pitch but to provide them with solid knowledge to guide their potential clients.
On the 7th of March, the distributors were transported to the famous Studio 28 complex. Fuzion Far East Limited, Genelec’s Thai distributor who took on the responsibility of logistics for the Distributor meet, was also responsible for the demo set-up at Studio 28.
The demonstration spaces included a full 3D immersive space using Genelec’s S360, 7382 and 8351 speakers. The demonstration showcased playback in a Dolby Atmos 7.1.4, Auro 3D 9.1 and Auro 3D 11.1 environment.
The S360’s fusion of main monitor performance and compact size makes it perfect for demanding film, post and music production, and in combination with a subwoofer, the S360 satisfies the demands of EDM playback or Dolby film mixing even in rooms where the listening distance exceeds 10 metres (33 feet).
A smaller demo space showcased an Auro 7.2 set-up using the Genelec 8331 and 8341 Ones. Housed in enclosures no larger than a traditional two-way 8030 or 8040, they wipe away the previous constraints of coaxial point source set-ups.
Another studio was used to showcase the monitoring richness of Genelec S360 and 8341 speakers.
The Genelec 4020C Active loudspeakers were also presented in different 120 RAL colours. In this case in yellow, red, grey and purple. The compact and stylish Genelec 4020C active loudspeaker shares the same superior design with the Genelec 8000 Series monitors. Its controlled directivity allows the system to be easily installed in many types of acoustic environments, providing outstanding sound coverage.
In the latter part of the day, the programme was opened to the local audio professionals. In total about 100 guests made up of sound engineers, composers, end-users and installers made their presence. Other than listening to the various demos, guests were also treated to knowledge talks. Thomas Lund, the Senior Technologist at Genelec, spoke to the audience about GLM calibrated frequency response and Loudness-compliance. James Shannon Senior Sound Consultant from Dolby Laboratories spoke on Dolby Atmos room specification and DARDT Tool with Wilfried van Baelen owner of one of the best studios in the world, Galaxy Studios, ending the talks with a presentation on Auro music production and immersive recording techniques. Pok Suthat of Fuzion provided live translation in Thai.
Later in the evening guests got to mingle and listen to the Genelec speakers as some of the popular local DJs spun the music. Food, beverage, laughter and listening to excellent sound from the Genelec speakers ended a successful 2019 Genelec regional distributors meeting.
