Genelec 4000 Series active loudspeakers feature in a recent refurbishment project at the University of Zurich. Eleven new classrooms have been created at a University campus site in the city, with Genelec’s installation-friendly speakers providing the sound element to complement the new audio visual equipment installation.
The University of Zurich, is the largest university in Switzerland, with over 25,000 students attending a diverse range of courses. The university campus is spread across many buildings located across the city. The new teaching facility is part of the Film Studies Faculty and in acquiring the space the University took the opportunity to create a 21st Century teaching environment complete with a top quality audio visual installation. The Genelec speakers were supplied by Dr.W.A.Günther Audio Systems AG in Erlenbach,Switzerland’s leading distributor of professional audio equipment.

Installed by Prosat AG, of Dietikon, the Genelec speakers are installed in eleven classrooms in the building – two in each room. With no volume control on the front of the speaker, system setup can be preserved without undesired alteration. The 4000 Series also features an integrated amplifier, so importantly space saving in the equipment rack was guaranteed. Furthermore, the model is fitted with Phoenixscrew terminals (common with many other leading products in the audio visual sector) making for a secure connection, which delivers interference-free, professional quality sound.
The combination chassis (speaker and amplifier) is both compact and powerful and is discreetly installed in the classrooms. The precise ‘Room Response’ controls have been used to calibrate bass tilt, treble tilt and bass roll-off to optimise the loudspeaker’s response to each classroom’s acoustical environment. Also, the in-built protection circuitry guarantees the reliability of the loudspeaker system in all operating conditions as drivers are electronically protected from signal peaks and system misuse.
